Best April Ever!

Grayson and I finally got to go biking together this month. I hooked him into his travel trailer and off we went. If you look close you can see that this is the same day that he did a giant face plant on the sidewalk. Daycare told us that he didn't even cry. What a tough little guy! This was the first time that I got my bike out this year. In fact, I'm not sure if I even rode my bike last year. I really hope that Grayson enjoys this because I had a great time. We live pretty close to two parks. I'm guessing that we will have a few picnics there this summer.

Grayson learned a new skill. Throwing! And you will never believe who taught it to him...Mommy! Grayson loves his tennis ball. He throws and chases it all the time. Sometimes Max even plays with him.

For my birthday Trina gave me a comfortable shorts and shirt pajama set. You can see Grayson and myself reading a bedtime book as part of his nighttime routine.

Grayson went on an Easter egg hunt in our front yard. All of the eggs are colored like baseballs, footballs, soccer balls or basketballs. He had a good time grabbing them and throwing them into his basket. Walking in the grass was a skill that he hasn't mastered yet. There is a very slight slope towards the sidewalk and it made slowing down very difficult. This prepared him for the Easter egg hunt at Nana and Grandpa Bud's house. However, when the competition was on, Chance taught Grayson a thing or two about finding eggs.

Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar? Soon we are going to have to stop blaming Trilby's kids. Grayson found his Easter basket full of goodies.

Trina and I are in the market for a camper and something to pull it with. We initially thought about getting something really small and using a van to pull it, but our options would be very limited. Then we thought about buying something bigger and getting a beater truck to pull it. We have no idea what we are going to do, but we hope to have made a decision before camping season is over for the year. (we aren't buying this one, it's tiny)

The last post had a list of the things Trina got me for my birthday. Since I posted that I've had about two weeks worth of gifts. The highlights include a list of thirty (28) reasons why Trina loves me. If found these sticky notes around the house. There might be more somewhere, but I haven't found them yet. I also received a framed poster of my favorite Grant Wood painting. It's called Plaid Sweater. Here is a link for those that want to see what it looks like...

This is the cake that Trina made. It's a scaled down version of Wrigley Field. It is complete with a scoreboard and stadium sign. The dirt is made out of brown sugar. I loved it. Haven't eaten it yet, but loved the thought and effort that she put into it.

PS... Don't let Max and Marley lick you this week. They caught and ate the Easter Bunny on Friday while Trina was home with Grayson. When I told my parents about it, they thought that chocolate was bad for dogs. I was more concerned about the bones.

Walking

We've been telling people since December that Grayson is only a week or two away from taking off. He finally took off. When we were at my parents house over Spring break he decided to walk about 15 feet. He only walked about 3-4 times a day so when he did, it was a big deal. Now that it has been two or three weeks since he took all of those steps, he prefers to walk rather than crawling. Trina and I estimate that he walks about 90% of the time. Everyone told us that once he starts walking parenting gets a lot harder. We haven't had that experience yet. We actually prefer that he can walk. Now he can go where he wants and doesn't complain that he can't get there. I hope we still feel this way after he as been a walker for a few months.

I don't think that parents take enough pictures of their kids while they are mad. If you blog, I encourage you to post pictures of your kids while they are upset.I also encourage you to take pictures of your kids when they are doing funny things. I really want to take a picture of Grayson when he is making that funny face that tells us he is loading his pants. It's kinda like a smile, except the veins in his neck pop out. As you notice, we don't have this picture yet. I'm working on it. One more word of advice. Don't take a picture of your spouse while they are unloading. If you choose not to take my advice, don't post it on your blog.

The Big 3-0
I'm turning 30 at the end of this month and Trina wanted to make my birthday a little more special than usual. She has planned to give me a gift for the 30 days that lead up to my birthday. Here are a few of my daily gifts in no particular order.

  • Trina will take out the trash and recycling all month long

  • Get out of doing anything coupon (used on sewing the pocket back on my sweatshirt)

  • We don't have cable so she arranged for us to watch a Cubs game at Autumn's house

  • Cubs t-shirt

  • Cubs pajama pants

  • Athletic shorts

  • Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches

  • Carmel flavored coffee

  • Oatmeal cream pies

  • White chocolate covered pretzels

  • Jolly Ranchers

  • Batman underwear (I thought it was a joke too, but when laundry piled up they came in handy)

  • a few more that I can't think of at the moment

Her idea to spread out the gifts has been a good one. She has me guessing when and what I'm getting. At one point she told me to stop guessing. I assume it's because I'm getting really close to things that she has planned. The hard part is that she hid 30 gifts around the house. I walk into a room and Trina tells me to get out. I can't go in the freezer, laundry room, basement bedroom or anywhere else she decides to limit access to. I'm constantly thinking about what's next. Trina knows this and plays games with my head. When we went to Autumn's house for the Cubs game, she had me get Grayson down for his nap and right before I put him in the crib she told me to put him in the car. She does a great job of keeping secrets from me. She almost never slips. Thanks Trina for such a great month!

gate

Dad, I couldn't send all of these over e-mail, so I blogged them.

Let me know what measurements you need to create the gate.
