Walking

We've been telling people since December that Grayson is only a week or two away from taking off. He finally took off. When we were at my parents house over Spring break he decided to walk about 15 feet. He only walked about 3-4 times a day so when he did, it was a big deal. Now that it has been two or three weeks since he took all of those steps, he prefers to walk rather than crawling. Trina and I estimate that he walks about 90% of the time. Everyone told us that once he starts walking parenting gets a lot harder. We haven't had that experience yet. We actually prefer that he can walk. Now he can go where he wants and doesn't complain that he can't get there. I hope we still feel this way after he as been a walker for a few months.

I don't think that parents take enough pictures of their kids while they are mad. If you blog, I encourage you to post pictures of your kids while they are upset.I also encourage you to take pictures of your kids when they are doing funny things. I really want to take a picture of Grayson when he is making that funny face that tells us he is loading his pants. It's kinda like a smile, except the veins in his neck pop out. As you notice, we don't have this picture yet. I'm working on it. One more word of advice. Don't take a picture of your spouse while they are unloading. If you choose not to take my advice, don't post it on your blog.

The Big 3-0
I'm turning 30 at the end of this month and Trina wanted to make my birthday a little more special than usual. She has planned to give me a gift for the 30 days that lead up to my birthday. Here are a few of my daily gifts in no particular order.

  • Trina will take out the trash and recycling all month long

  • Get out of doing anything coupon (used on sewing the pocket back on my sweatshirt)

  • We don't have cable so she arranged for us to watch a Cubs game at Autumn's house

  • Cubs t-shirt

  • Cubs pajama pants

  • Athletic shorts

  • Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches

  • Carmel flavored coffee

  • Oatmeal cream pies

  • White chocolate covered pretzels

  • Jolly Ranchers

  • Batman underwear (I thought it was a joke too, but when laundry piled up they came in handy)

  • a few more that I can't think of at the moment

Her idea to spread out the gifts has been a good one. She has me guessing when and what I'm getting. At one point she told me to stop guessing. I assume it's because I'm getting really close to things that she has planned. The hard part is that she hid 30 gifts around the house. I walk into a room and Trina tells me to get out. I can't go in the freezer, laundry room, basement bedroom or anywhere else she decides to limit access to. I'm constantly thinking about what's next. Trina knows this and plays games with my head. When we went to Autumn's house for the Cubs game, she had me get Grayson down for his nap and right before I put him in the crib she told me to put him in the car. She does a great job of keeping secrets from me. She almost never slips. Thanks Trina for such a great month!

A lot of people are doing the 365 project--taking a photo everyday. They can be of anything--a poopong baby, a complaining wife, or a crazy Cubs fan! Maybe you should try it. You know you better get planning for Trina's 30th. The expectations ae high now!
